this is a book i’ve looked forward to reading for a long time, but for odd twists of fate, haven’t gotten around to until now. “Imperial San Francisco” chronicles not only San Francisco’s rise in power and popularity (it’s the second most visited city in America, next to NY), but the effect large urban centers have on the surrounding countryside. San Francisco from sleepy Spanish Mission hamelt, to Barbary Coast debauchery, to turn of the century power maganates and on to current day liberal haven has a past colorful enough to make even the most jaded blush.
